Nourishing Biodiversity, Empowering People, Molding Legacy
Our Story
Karya Hutan, a pioneer in technology-driven mixed-use forest stewardship in Eastern Indonesia, was granted 38,0860-hectares forest concession in 2017. The company has scaled to reach $5M annual turnover within three years of operation and more than 50,000 trees planted annually. Now entering its second phase, the company is expanding into high-quality nature-based carbon project with triple standards: Verified Carbon Standard for Improved Forest Management (IFM), Verified Carbon Standard for Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) and Gold-level Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB). Our approach rewards stakeholders with generous and steady cash flow along with long-term ecological value. Looking ahead, the company shall intensify its assets further into renewable resources production such as biofuel, biochar, glycerol and hydrogen gas. As well as concession expansion with focus in the Eastern Indonesia region.

Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) is a LiDAR altimeter mission by NASA to measure how deforestation has contributed to atmospheric CO2 concentrations.
A full-waveform LiDAR was attached to the International Space Station to provide the first global, high-resolution observations of forest vertical structure.

LIDAR, an acronym of “light detection and ranging” or “laser imaging, detection, and ranging” is a method for determining ranges by targeting an object or a surface with a laser and measuring the time for the reflected light to return to the receiver.
Through LIDAR we are able to create a 3d map of our forest concession and increase accuration in biomass calculation.
We collaborate with our technological partner to leverage advanced analytics, digital monitoring and up-to-date high resolution satellite imagery. The platform essentially provides near real-time nature intelligence.
We develop an internal monitoring system that combines the use of drones and smartphone GPS.
